Lethargy

There is sure to be a joke lurking somewhere in opening a blog post entitled "Lethargy" and then staring at a blank edit screen for several minutes, unable to write anything. But that's the position I have just found myself in. Yes, the mid-winter blues have set in, I've had a week of more than unusually noisy girl and this time the physical manifestation is lethargy. Doing anything is an effort, I'd prefer to go back to bed. As an insomniac you might imagine I'd find that to be a welcome change, but I have more than a slight suspicion that I'm experiencing the adverse effects of my medication. I've thus booked a couple of appointments to try and sort it out.
One slight surprise, my psychiatrist is retiring. I can't say I'm looking forward to his replacement, whoever they may be, because I don't know what ideas or even what baggage they will bring to the role. One would hope for someone clued-up, but from my discussions with others in similar positions to myself I'm aware that this is not always the case. I don't fancy having to battle someone's pet theories about the relationship between gender and sexuality, for example.
I'll leave you with a quote that made me laugh from an acquaintance of mine. She's talking about the stria terminalis, the brain region identified by Zhou et al as being female-proportioned in male-at-birth transsexuals.
"I'll laugh the day it is established what that bit of brain really does. It will turn out it's where the gag reflex is located."

It is interesting to see how different people approach their blog. I write a rambling post and then look for a title that sums up what I have written.

Feeling lethargic at this time of year is nothing unusual; I think everyone feels it to some degree or other. Nice to hear that you get professional analysis, something that I should have done a long time ago but have never been brave enough to do. Good luck with the new person.

  2. Time to get some sunshine on your face and boost the vitamin D.

Strangely since the chemical rebalance of my body SAD does not get me the same...

  3. I think most people I know are feeling very larthargic at the moment. I know that we have an office full of people trying to get back into the swing of things at present.

Good luck with your new therapist - having a click is so important.

  4. I thought you were lethargic all of the time Jenny.......only kidding...LOL. Could be your age though too if it isn't what has already been suggested. I sometimes get bouts of lethargy setting in so i do something about it, like go down to the pub and have a few drinks with friends. That usually perks me up! Spring is just around the corner so that is something to look forward to.

PS. Why is it that the word verification for my comments doesn't work until I attempt to post? It then appears and I have to try to post the second time. Another question: Is it possible to 'enable' regular commentors to your blog the privelege of not having to fill in the identity form each time they make a comment as we can do at Wordpress?

  5. I feel lethargic every day, until about mid afternoon. Then I'm wide awake until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. Even when I was working, and getting up at 4:30 in the morning, I was never fully awake until lunch time. I'm just not a morning person.

Good luck with the new shrink!

    Funny quote from your friend!

  6. Still here, still lethargic :)

I nearly fell asleep in a meeting this afternoon.

I think it's that killer combination of a bit of post-Christmas insomnia, a noisy girl and overcast days. I take a vitamin D supplement, but it only goes so far.

@Shirley Anne, would your OpenID account not work for you? I suppose the alternative would be to have a Google account, but that would be somewhat of a faff.
